Meet the maker

Hi, I’m Jimmy.

I didn’t start making rope fenders because I owned a classic wooden boat.

I started because I have always been drawn to things that become better when they are paired with something beautiful.

A handcrafted rope fender and a classic boat belong together. Just like polished wood, brass fittings and varnish. Each one makes the other more beautiful.

That’s the kind of craftsmanship I love.

There is something deeply satisfying about taking a simple rope and turning it into something that doesn’t just protect a boat, but becomes part of it. Something that might still be there decades from now.

Making rope fenders gives me a sense of calm.

Every knot. Every splice. Every piece of rope passing through my hands slows the world down a little. There are no machines, no production line and no shortcuts. Just traditional craftsmanship, one fender at a time, on the Swedish west coast.

The greatest reward isn’t finishing another fender.

It’s receiving a photo months later from a customer somewhere in the world. A small harbor in Maine. A varnished launch on the Great Lakes. A classic yacht in the Mediterranean. Seeing something I made become part of someone else’s story never gets old.

I don’t believe every boat needs rope fenders.

But when the right boat meets the right rope fender, something special happens.

One plus one somehow becomes three.

That feeling is why I started Fendermaker, and why I still make every single fender by hand.

Thank you for visiting.
